The Court House Players production of the musical “Newsies” bursts with energy and excitement as it tells the tale of the 1899 newsboys strike against the titans of the newspaper industry.
In it, Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies,” decides to fight against an increase in distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense and rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions.
An ambitious young reporter, Katherine Plumber, working hard to make a name for herself as a legitimate journalist in a time when women aren’t taken seriously, attempts to capture the voice of a rising new generation in her coverage of the strike.
Based on the 1992 Disney film and inspired by a true story, “Newsies” features a Tony Award-winning score.
