From the Owner
Mariner’s Legacy is located on a 22 acre family estate on a peninsula looking up and down the East River as well as Raines Creek. Every window has a water view. The house was built in 1867 by ship’s wrights for a sea captain, my great-grandfather, Capt. Isaac Ward. The house has been lovingly updated over the years and celebrates the maritime history of Mathews County and the Chesapeake Bay, which mirrors the history of the family. A library of Mathews and Chesapeake Bay history, with an emphasis on the Civil War, is being built by the owners. Family games are provided for those rainy days. There is plenty of room to spread out while playing corn hole, volleyball or croquet. Fire pit located in “old barnyard area” with clear view of the breath taking starry night sky. Bicycles are provided to explore the Bohannon/Mobjack area. A kayak is provided to enjoy the river. Launching area for kayak is adjacent to house. This is also a great place to use the beach chairs provided to sit beside the river or use the light weight plastic chairs to literally sit in the water as the tide comes in!If you have a bigger boat, a boat ramp and docking slip can be provided on Raines Creek, an adjacent protected cove. A porch swing, rocking chairs, Pottery Barn table with seating for 8, can expand to 12 and rattan couch and chairs are waiting for you to sit only steps away from the East River.
