Movie Night at the Museum: The Loving Story

Join the Mathews Historical Museum for the Reopening/ Inauguration of the Movie Room! The MHM invites you to “fall in love with history” this February, in recognition of Black History Month! After a January closure for renovations, Mathews Museum Movie Night returns Friday, February 16th with a screening of “The Loving Story,” a 2011 HBO documentary which tells the heart-rending story of Richard and Mildred Loving.
The documentary details how their marriage changed the fabric of Virginia, and the nation, during the Civil Rights Era. Doors will open at 5:00. They’ll kick off the evening with a reception, then a brief meeting at 5:30, including recognition of former Museum Director, John Caramia. The film will begin at 6 PM.
The HBO documentary is about a famous case that went before the Supreme Court in the 1960s. “The Loving Story” is very compelling. Directed by Nancy Buirski, written by Nancy Buirski and Susie Ruth Powell, the movie stars Jane Alexander, Lindsay Almon, Jr. and Edward L. Ayers. The movie will be aired in the newly renovated movie room of the Mathews Historical Museum, 200 Main Street.
There is no charge for this event. There are no reservations, and early attendance is recommended.
