Rosenwald -documentary on Historic African American Schools

September 17, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free
  • « Antioch Rosenwald Museum open for visitors
  • Fish Fry & Bar-B-Que Dinner »

Rosenwald film screening and discussion with Antioch School alumni and the National Historic Preservation Trust.

In the early 1900’s, Owner and CEO of Sears & Roebuck, Co. Julius Rosenwald used his considerable wealth to build more than 5,000 schools for the benefit of African-Americans in the South. After the schools were desegregated, most of these “Rosenwald” schools were lost and today only 10% of the original structures are still standing.

Mathews County is lucky to have one of the few remaining schools: the Antioch Rosenwald School, which houses a museum of local African-American history.

This event is free and open to the public. All donations benefit the Antioch Rosenwald School.
