We are thrilled to introduce you to our new Visitor Center Coordinator, Rosemary!
Rosemary spent her childhood in a small town in Illinois, much like Mathews. In the late 1980s, she moved to Virginia and began her professional journey working in a law office in Roanoke. Over the next three decades, Rosemary built a diverse career in higher education and the not-for-profit corporate sector. Her roles were varied and included serving as vice president for a business and financial consulting firm in Roanoke, office manager, product development manager, IT business analyst, compliance and risk systems manager, and more in the Charlottesville area. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science.
In 2021, Rosemary left the corporate world to follow her passion for art. That year, she entered a contest in North Carolina and was selected as one of the artists to paint an antique door, which was then auctioned off to raise funds for an art center. She also participated in her first plein air painting event. In 2022, she took on a part-time position as a retail sales manager in a glass and resin art shop. There, she loved working with the public, creating art, and assisting with teaching classes. Rosemary specializes in landscape paintings, working with oil, acrylic, or gouache. She also creates custom ornaments, featuring pet portraits or local landmarks.
In 2024, Rosemary and her husband purchased their 1880s farmhouse in Mathews County. They were drawn to Mathews’ small town feel, and they love being by the water. Rosemary also
enjoys planting flowers, gardening, boating, fishing, playing with their two bloodhounds, and spending time with the grandchildren. Rosemary is very excited about the opportunity to work in the Visitor Center, meeting new people, serving the community and public, and learning more about Mathews!
Please join us in welcoming Rosemary, and stop in to meet her when we reopen next week!
