The Mathews Rotary Club is inviting the community of Mathews to honor their heroes. Flags will be displayed on Mathews Main Street across from Food Lion by the new HRSD building from June 12th through July 6th, 2021. *Any flag ordered for a Veteran which is received by May 28th, will be flown starting on Saturday, May 29th through July 6th.
Mathews Rotary Club sponsors an annual project to Honor Heroes from all over. Here’s how it works, the Club has purchased American Flags in bulk, and invites you to Honor your hero by sponsoring a flag, whether you’re an individual or corporation. Heroes may include someone important in your life, whether they be military personnel, first responders, health care workers, grandparent, spouse, teacher, and the like. If you are unsure of whom to honor, you could choose to recognize all who protect our country. You may also wish to install your own flag in your own front yard (use these flagpole installation instructions to help) as a mark of remembrance that you can look out on from a window. We often receive feedback that sitting and watching the flags wave in the wind is a therapeutic experience, so having your own at home may aid you in your reflection.
Net proceeds from Flags for Heroes will benefit Mathews County through the club’s community projects and scholarships.
“It is simple and yet so meaningful to be able to pause and think about “Who’s My Hero(es)”. Maybe a Parent, Grandparent, Friend, Veteran, Military, EMT, Firefighter, Law Enforcement, Nurse, Teacher, Doctor, Spouse, Child or so many more people in our lives that have made a distinct impression on each of us.”
– Karl Braun, President, Mathews Rotary Club
Each flagpole has a 3×5 American flag and a 4″ recognition tag attached (all purchased by the Rotary Club). The tag includes your hero’s name, as well as your name as the sponsor. Following the event, you’ll receive the tag as a special keepsake.
