Main Street Holiday Night Market & Tree Lighting
Shops will be open until 7 pm, with refreshments. Pick up a punch-card and find the hidden blue crabs in each shop, and be entered into a drawing for a family prize basket. Carolers will sing along the streets, and Santa will be taking appearances throughout town! Join the carolers for hot chocolate, winner announcements, and tree lighting at Westville Church at 7 pm!

Join the Mathews Main Street Committee for a special Christmas holiday Farmers Market! Food, flowers, and gifts galore! Our vendors feature a variety of fresh vegetables, along with homemade bread and bakery goods, eggs, and meat. Tompkins Cottage Museum Christmas Open House will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. as part of the Mathews Christmas Farmers Market. Traditional holiday decorations will be featured throughout. The 2024 Mathews County Historical Society ornament the Linda Carol will be featured. Other society ornaments, Sally Tompkins dolls and publications will also be available for purchase. Martha McCartney, historical researcher and author, will be on hand to autograph her comprehensive history, Mathews County, Virginia: Lost Landscapes, Untold Stories.

This year's Mathews Christmas Parade theme is "Blue Crab Christmas!" The parade will be held on Saturday December 14, at 1 PM! There is no rain date if the parade is cancelled due to inclement weather, and the parade will take place rain or shine. Prizes will be awarded for the best entry in each of the following categories: Civic, Animal, Walking Unit, School, Commercial, Motorized, Church, Parade Theme, and Antique Vehicle. A special quilting exhibit, “Threads of Our History: Quilts of Mathews Virginia,” will debut at the Mathews Museum, October 5 and will be on exhibit through the end of December. These quilts are from a private collection of an old Mathews family, going back over a century. Mathews is a small, rural southern county sitting on the Chesapeake Bay.
