May FAIRE is a spring event celebrating Mathews County's heritage, culture, seafood bounty, and natural beauty! It will be held May 6, 2017 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Historic Mathews Court Green area. Remember the Mathews Spring Festivals and the May Day Festivals with May Pole dancing! Annual Mathews Rotary fundraiser to support local needs of the Mathews community. A wonderful afternoon/evening of fine foods, fun in-house horse wagers, and derby race viewing. Please plan to attend this event in support of our outreach to the Mathews community. Tickets are $59.00 p/person which includes meal and special beverage pricing, which of course includes Mint Juleps. Plan to wear your greatest hats, and gents in your finest seer-suckers or linens. Soothin’ Summer Sounds @ Mathews Memorial Library is “Hitting a High Note Again” with Plunky & Oneness a versatile funk, jazz, Afro-fusion group. James “Plunky” Branch is the two-time recipient of NEA Jazz Fellowships and "one of the greatest living saxophonist!" “Plunky” has served as Director of the Jazz Ensemble at Virginia Union University, as well as, an instructor of Afro-American Music History at Virginia Commonwealth University, both in Richmond.
