Captain Hudgins spent over 50 years on the water. His family has generously allowed access to his photographs so that residents and visitors to Mathews can learn about his life as a Mathews waterman.

Mathews Historical Museum Christmas Indoor Bazaar
An indoor bazaar featuring local craft vendors, offering goods such as baked items and hand crafted items suitable for Christmas giving. The Museum will also offer takeout chili in quarts, at $6, as well as a “dine in” option of a hotdog with chili, chips, water. Chili Cook-Off Mathews Rotary Club presents the 7th Annual Chili Cook-Off! February 21, 2022 4:30pm-7pm Piankatank Ruritan Club Tickets are $15 and include all you can eat chili, cornbread, soft drinks and dessert. The Market takes place every Saturday, April through October on the Courthouse Green from 9am to 1pm. Food, flowers, and gifts galore!
