On Sunday, May 21, Bayside Youth Ballet will present their Spring Gala, “Celebrating the Classics and the Contemporary” at 2:00pm in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School. Freya Homecoming Celebration
Due to extreme weather conditions on the Atlantic Ocean, the return of the Freya has been delayed and the celebration for May 27 was postponed. This historic sailboat built by Gilbert Klingel in the 1950’s is returning to the place where she was built. The Freya, recently donated to the Mathews Maritime Foundation, will be on display at the Gwynn’s Island Boat Yard dock and will serve as an educational vessel. Soothin’ Summer Sounds @ Mathews Memorial Library is “Hitting a High Note Again” with Plunky & Oneness a versatile funk, jazz, Afro-fusion group. James “Plunky” Branch is the two-time recipient of NEA Jazz Fellowships and "one of the greatest living saxophonist!" “Plunky” has served as Director of the Jazz Ensemble at Virginia Union University, as well as, an instructor of Afro-American Music History at Virginia Commonwealth University, both in Richmond.
