Janice Jones, founder/owner of Roane’s Antiques at The Cottage on Main Street, began her career in the 1980s with redoing old furniture and discarded items and bring them back to life. In mid-2020, following COVID, she redesigned her business to include estate sales and online sales and then expanded her corporate footprint to include a store on Buckley Hall Road where she stores items and holds sales.
Karen Podd, a clay artist, came to Mathews with her husband from Norfolk over 50 years ago to begin their business. They restored their house and opened a studio and established a highly successful business, “The Poddery.” Their pottery is on display at the Bay Community School Arts Center, the Mathews Visitor Center, and at their home-studio showroom in Mathews.
