Book Signing @ Tompkins Cottage Museum
Sat., April 17th | 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Thomas T. Wiatt, a distant cousin of Sally Tompkins through the Todd and Field families, will be on hand at Tompkins Cottage Museum on Saturday, April 17 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to sell and sign copies of his recent book, Captain Sally: A Biography of Capt. Sally Tompkins, America’s First Female Army Officer.

Wiatt was born in Savannah, Ga., grew up in Newport News and has deep Gloucester County family roots. He is a graduate of Thomas Nelson Community College and Virginia Tech. He is a retired engineer from Newport News Shipbuilding and serves as a consultant for Gibbs & Cox, Marine Solutions, a Naval architectural and design firm in Newport News. Wiatt volunteers at the Mariners Museum and Park.

In addition to Captain Sally, he also authored Lawyer Walker: A Biography of Thomas Calhoun Walker, Alleged Pirate: The Legend of Capt. John Sinclair of Smithfield and Gloucester County, Virginia, his great-great-great-great grandfather and Rev. William E. Wiatt; The life and times of a Confederate Chaplain and related family stories.

Mathews County Historical Society is sponsoring the book-signing. Copies will be available for purchase for $10.
