MUSEUM LAUNCHES CALL FOR PHOTOS & STORIES OF MATHEWS WATERMEN
The Mathews Historical Museum will be “Celebrating Mathews Watermen” during its Spring Heritage Festival, May Faire 2022, May 7.th
As part of that celebration the museum is seeking photographs and information about county residents (past and present) who have been commercial fishermen. These photographs will be on display in the museum as part of the May Faire program as well as being compiled into an electronic database for use in the museum at 200 Main Street, once renovations are completed. Types of information being sought, are the name(s) of the watermen, contact information, biographical information, type(s) of commercial fishing done, when they fished, boats served on, company(s) worked for, unusual experience(s) or stories, any newspaper and/or, magazine articles written about the person, pictures (Note: all original pictures will be copied and returned to the owner), and the source of this information.
Photographs and materials may be submitted in an envelope with return instructions clearly labeled, and dropped off at the Mathews Visitor Center on Main Street, or, they may be mailed to MHM, P.O. Box 634, Mathews, VA. 23109. Materials can also be submitted electronically to [email protected]
The deadline for submitting photographs and information to be included in the display in the museum is April 7th 2022. Any photographs and materials received after that date will be included in the museum’s database but will not be included in the museum display during May Faire.“Celebrating Mathews Watermen”May Faire 2022, May 7.
