Participants will learn about the computer’s hardware and software components and how to connect to various networks. \nThe next two sessions are a foundational overview of the Windows 8.1 operating system. Participants will learn about the new Start Screen and Desktop\, how to manipulate windows and work with applications and how to use File Explorer to manage folders and files. \nDuring the last session\, participants will learn more about the Internet and using the Internet Explorer browser.  Browsing and searching techniques will be discussed as well as bookmarking favorite websites.  Participants will learn to effectively communicate with others using a popular web-based E-mail service.

Gary was a technical advisor for the recently-released film that tells the story of his father and the controversy that surrounded the Soviet missle strike that brought down the super-secretplane over Russia in 1960\, his capture and incarceration in Moscow\, and the negotiations that occured behind the scenes to trade his father for a Soviet spy being held by the U.S.

DESCRIPTION:Fly me to the Moon! Those words inspired John Newcomb to join NASA’s Space Program as a young engineer where he quickly became involved in their early space missions. As told in his book\, “A Bunch of Plumbers”\, armed with butcher paper\, slide rules and punch card computers\, John and his fellow “plumbers” accomplished two of the most successful space missions of the 20th century – the Lunar Orbiter Project which placed 5 Lunar Orbiters around the Moon and the Viking Project which placed two landers on the surface of Mars. \nJohn will share stories of the extraordinary people who are the unsung heroes of the space race. ALL YOU CAN EAT after tasting and voting for your favorite chili! Soda\, water\, cornbread and mouthwatering desserts donated by Lynne’s Family Restaurant and Richardson’s! The ballet company will also be performing “The Enchanted Doll Shoppe” a special delight for children of all ages. DESCRIPTION:The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our second annual Empty Bowls event. The hand-made bowls are starting to stack up on the shelves at the Bay School and more are being fired as we speak. An incredible assortment of hand-made soups\, breads\, and cookies will be served during the event. Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands\, both novice and expert. Local artist Gary Edmondson is contributing to the cause with the donation of one of his paintings\, to be raffled off during the event. \nThis is a ticketed event. Tickets may be reserved on the Bay School website or purchased at the Bay School starting Thanksgiving week. \nAll proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews\, so cash or check only\, please. Your $15 ticket gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch of soup and bread\, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews. We will sell as many tickets as we have bowls. Timely yet timeless\, The Grascals make music that is entirely relevant to the here and now\, yet immersed in traditional values of soul and musicianship. It’s a unique sound that has earned three Grammy® nominations and two Entertainer of the Year awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association\, as well as national media attention that seems to perpetually elude acts entrenched in niche genres. Such appearances include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno\, Fox & Friends\, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson\, and CBS’ The Talk. All the while\, stages that represent the strongest bastions of tradition continually welcome them\, as evidenced by the over 150 performances on the Grand Ole Opry.
