DESCRIPTION:Premier cycling event on the beautiful Chesapeake Bay with 4 concise routes\, each around 25 miles\, which take cyclists from our own Gwynn’s Island to Bethel Beach to the New Point Lighthouse. Each route has fully stocked rest stops\, SAG support and lovely views galore! You may ride any route as many times as you like to add up the miles! We are the only ride that offers a WATER TAXI on an authentic Chesapeake Bay Deadrise within one of the routes! Our ride culminates on Saturday evening with a Seafood Feast and Party at the Wharf\, at the Riverfront Pavilion at historic Williams Wharf Landing.

The theme for May Faire 2023 is “Celebrating Teachers\, Schools and Community: Over a Hundred Years of Public Education in Mathews County.” \nActivities will take place both on Court House Green and the Museum. Your ticket gets you an oyster tasting and a tour through the hatchery with a staff member where you will learn how oysters get their start.  Also included is access to the pop-up oyster bar from 5-9pm where you are welcome to come before and stay after your tour time to enjoy the sunset over local oysters\, beer\, and wine for sale.\n\nFrom Oyster Seed Holdings: Please note that we regret that our facility is not currently ADA accessible.  In addition the floors in the hatchery can be wet and slippery and patrons should wear appropriate\, grippy\, footwear.

DESCRIPTION:4m Run\, 10m Ride or Run/Ride Duathlon: Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County is the host site of this annual race. Join runners & riders in this unique tour of one of Virginia’s special locations – then hang around to enjoy the music & food. \n4 mile road run\nStarting and ending at the Gwynn’s Island Civic League\, the route follows quiet backroads around the island\, with a constant view of the water. The race course is 4 miles and the cost is $30. For those looking for a shorter distance\, we will have a Free Fun Run open for everyone (distance just > 1 mile). \n10 mile bicycle ride\nWeaving around the backroads of Gwynn’s Island\, you’ll catch glimpses of the Chesapeake Bay\, Milford Sound\, and the popular campground & RV resort on the island as you complete the course. The route is 10 miles and the cost is $30. \nCombine the run & ride\nFeeling adventurous? Sign up for the combined Run & Ride and make it a duathlon. The 4 mile run and 10 mile ride routes are the same as the individual events described above – you’ll stage your bicycle so that as you complete the run leg\, you can immediately head out onto the bike course. The cost is $50.

Performing around the world with such stars as Melissa Etheridge\, Leslie Garrett\, Joel Grey\, Michael Feinstein\, Steve Ross\, and the Smothers Brothers\, her talent does not stop on the performance stage. She is also found on radio\, TV\, private recitals\, and on Jazz Inspired\, the popular NPR show and Podcast. She has chronicled her career in numerous articles on the subject of jazz as well as books\, one of which is her memoir\, Swinger! DESCRIPTION:Ware Neck\, a narrow body of land bordered on one side by the Ware River and the other by the North River\, is in Gloucester County. Visitors will enjoy this tour showcasing a close-knit community with a historic general store and post office\, whose early success was due to ties with steamships that once traded at nearby Hockley Wharf. Three private homes in this quaint community with unique and varied architecture and spectacular river views are included: Glen Roy\, an Antebellum mansion and one of the most elegant historic properties in Gloucester; The Lighthouse\, an eight-sided\, red roofed home in the style of a Chesapeake Bay lighthouse; and The Leigh House\, a more contemporary open and airy home with sweeping views of the Mobjack.
