DESCRIPTION:2021 MMTS Series – Registration is open! \nSeries #1: June 5th\nSeries #2: July 10th\nSeries #3: July 31st\nSeries #4: August 21st \nWhat’s a Micro-Triathlon? The micro triathlon contains the same components of a “regular” triathlon: swim-bike-run\, with much shorter distances for each of those 3 legs. The open water swim is 0.2 miles\, the bike leg is 8 miles and the run portion is 2 miles. \n\nMathews Micro Triathlon route map\n\nTiming & Registration Options: we electronically time each event to include splits for each leg and for the transitions. \nAwards: Series awards are presented after the final event. Top prize will be awarded to the fastest overall finisher – time combined for all events. Depending on the number of series participants\, we may be able to add in recognition prizes for the fastest combined swim\, bike\, run\, and transition times (overall top finisher will not be eligible for these skill-specific awards). \nIf you miss one event or more\, you can still be considered for a series-based prize. We will use the final finisher’s time for the event(s) you missed as your time for that event. \nSwag. Anyone who completes all series events – regardless of time – will receive a commemorative MMTS hoodie sweatshirt. A sweatshirt may not have appeal in the summer – but by the end of the series\, you will look forward to it! Sweatshirts will also be available for purchase upon request ($35 if we have to mail it\, $30 for local pickup).

DESCRIPTION:Your favorite Ukulele group is coming back to the Sibley’s General Store on July 4th weekend! \nStop by to hear them jam on July 3rd\, 11am – 1pm. \nAbout the Ukesters: \nA small group of stray ukulele players in Richmond found each other in 2015 and began to practice around a dining room table. Word got out\, and soon there were 10 of us with a book of songs ever expanding. Today we are a group of some 22 players\, most of whom have been with us for at least five years. With an occasional accordion\, clarinet\, banjo\, autoharp  and steel drum\, we play a variety of songs—familiar uke songs from the 1930s\, Beetles\, gospel\, popular and bluegrass. We are a dedicated group\, having as much fun as we can. We practice weekly and until Covid\, had a regular schedule performing for retirement communities in and around Richmond. DESCRIPTION:The Mathews Maritime Foundation (MMF) will be having a\nMaritime Heritage Day Festival\nSat.\, July 17\n10 am – 3 pm \nCome join us at this outdoor event which will take place on the lawn beside the Maritime Museum.\nTents will be set up showing various activities and projects we are currently working on. Many  photos of past and present will be displayed.  MMF members can sign up for a Sunday Cruise on our buy boat The Peggy\, or for boat building and boat repair workshops which will take place at our Gwynn’s Island Boat Shop (GIBS). There will be interesting outdoor boat exhibits\, country music by John Atkinson of Gwynn’s Island\, food available by Backwoods BBQ \, and much more. The Museum will be open to browse\, see our new exhibits\, visit our gift shop\, and to be surprised at all you find in this little museum.  We hope our membership and friends in the community will take advantage of this opportunity to come talk to us in person and learn more about the activities planned for this summer. \nDirections:  The Maritime Museum is located at 482 Main Street\, Mathews\, VA.  It is on the right of Rt. 14\, just beyond the old courthouse area leading toward New Point.  Parking that day will be along the road on Main Street.  For those who prefer walking from the Courthouse area in town\, it is just a short walk down the street from the Bay School.  There are other events taking place on Main Street on July 17\, so come on down to add us to your adventure. \nRain date will be the following Saturday\, July 24. \nMathews Maritime Foundation\nwww.mathewsmaritime.com\n804-725-4444

DESCRIPTION:Did You Know. All Personal Watercraft (PWC) operators age 14 and older and all operators (regardless of age) of motorboats with a 10 hp or greater engine need to take a boating safety course. Once you complete the course\, the course completion certificate or card is what is required to operate a vessel.\n\n\n\n\nA USCG Auxiliary certified instructor will lead the sessions\, held at the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building on Cricket Hill Road in Mathews County. This course is free to the public but advanced signup is required due to facility size limitations. A minimum of 5 participants is needed to conduct the course; the classroom maximum is 15.
