Our vendors feature a variety of fresh vegetables\, along with homemade bread and bakery goods\, eggs\, and meat. In addition\, our vendors offer plants\, flowers (potted and bouquets)\, handmade crafts\, clothing\, and jewelry. You are also likely to find handmade ceramics\, soaps\, yarns\, and various types of artwork. \nBring the entire family (including pets) for all to enjoy the pleasant social atmosphere. We also encourage everyone to check out the surrounding shops and restaurants in downtown Mathews\, all within easy walking distance of the market.  \n\nCOVID-19 Vendor and Customer Guidelines: \nVendor Guidelines \n\nVendors are required to wear a mask.\nVendors will be spaced 6-ft apart.\nVendors’ booths will be set up to prevent touching of multiple surfaces by customers.\nVendors will have hand sanitizer and cleaning products to meet all enhanced cleaning guidelines.\n\nCustomer Guidelines \n\nFace masks are recommended for all visitors to the market.\nCustomers enter the market at the corner of Church and Court Streets by the monument.\nCustomers abide by the 6-ft distancing guidelines and ask visitors not to assemble in groups in front of vendor booths or walkways.\nKeep children with you at all times.

SUMMARY:Tompkins Cottage Museum circa 1820
DESCRIPTION:Open 10 a.m.-1 p.m.\nSaturdays\, starting June 27-Oct. 31\, 2020 \nThe cottage\, which is headquarters for the Mathews County Historical Society\, is named for Christopher Tompkins\, a local sea captain\, planter\, local merchant and member of the state legislature. He bought the cottage property in 1837 and is the first known owner. \nExhibits include a room dedicated to the history of Mathews County and serves as a gift shop\, two rooms representing a home from the 1840s to the 1920s\, and a room dedicated to Sally Louisa Tompkins who was the first woman commissioned in an American military unit. \nDuring this period of safe-distancing\, self-guided tours will be conducted.

DESCRIPTION:Open 10 a.m.-1 p.m.\nSaturdays\, starting June 27-Oct. 31\, 2020 \nTake a self-guided tour of one of the best-preserved early 19th–century stores in the southeastern U.S. This rare commercial structure has retained much of its original fabric; shed-roofed rectangular wings were added around 1900. Interpretive signage explains what the various marks and features represent. \nThe Thomas James Store is owned and maintained by the Mathews County Historical Society. \n

DESCRIPTION:Mathews Micro Triathlon Series (MMTS) Event #3\n\n\nvttrunners.com/mmts – $22 \nChanging it up for #3 – this race starts with the RUN\, followed by longer swim\, and wrapping up with a shorter bike ride – split timing for each leg of the triathlon and for transitions. Race day signup is available starting at 8am and the transition area will be open at that time as well. Participants should be ready-to-go (for the run start) at 8:30am. \nWe’ll have brief race instructions and Q&A time before the event and start as close to 8:00am as possible. Since the course will be different for this event\, we will provide route map separately. We’re changing the triathlon leg order AND the distances for this series event #3 – get ready!! \nAWARDS will be presented at the end of the series to the fastest overall finisher and (depending on number of participants) to fastest swimmer\, cyclist\, runner\, and transitioner – combined time for all 4 events. If you miss an event\, we will use the final finishing time for that event as your time for purposes of the Series. Overall winner will be ineligible for other awards. \nSERIES SWAG: Anyone completing all 4 series events will receive a MMTS Hoodie Sweatshirt at the final series event. Distancing will be observed\, temperatures checked\, and sanitizer will be available. \nEach drive will be held at the Piankatank Ruritan Building and will run from 2 to 7PM. Walk-ins will not be accepted and appointments can be made at redcrossblood.org. All blood types are needed; first time donors\, come and give it a try. Drink extra water before you come and help save a life! As many as three people can benefit from one person’s donation.
