This is our church’s largest annual fundraiser and one of the “can’t miss” events in Mathews County. In 2016\, we have added a new feature to the celebration: a 5k race and 1 mile Volksmarch. Join us for exercise\, entertainment\, and the most authentic German cuisine you can get outside of Deutschland courtesy of our master chef\, Chris Hale. \nThe 2016 event is scheduled for Saturday\, Oct 15th. Race registration and meal tickets are available online – just go to “vttrunners.com/Oktoberfest” to sign up for either or both through noon on 10/15. Tickets sell out each year\, and onsite registration is not available. \nEvery race participant will receive a 22-oz custom commemorative German stein\, and awards will be presented to top male & female finishers\, along with top 2 finishers in 9 different age groups.

His extensive travels to Cuba over the past 17 years culminated in a book titled\, Cuba Bound\, The North Coast: Ports of Entry and Anchorage. \nEd is an award winning film and video producer\, author and journalist. His initial travels to Cuba resulted in a film documentary produced with the University of Richmond’s Dr. Mike Davison that examines the relationships between American and Cuban music over the past century. Ed’s presentation will explore the new travel guidelines to Cuba and will be an interactive discussion of the relationship that the U.S. has with Cuba and its people.

DESCRIPTION:#FFFHEX contemporary art gallery is pleased to announce “Atlantean Frescoes\,” an exhibition of paintings by Travis Iurato. Please join us for an opening reception at the gallery Saturday\, November 26 from 6–8 P.M. The exhibition will be on view through December 17 and can be viewed Saturdays 1–6 P.M. and by appointment.  \n“Atlantean Frescoes” is a new body of work inspired by Iurato’s 2014 visit to Bavon\, VA. The artist reflects on the water and marine motifs while imagining the frescoed walls that would decorate the mythical lost city of Atlantis. Iurato seeks to “touch people in a deep place\, to stir them with ancient feelings” and simultaneously “excite them with something new.” His series of slab-like patterned paintings in ink echo preserved artifacts while speaking to life by the water in the 21st century.  \nTravis Iurato (born 1985\, Tucson) lives and works in Flagstaff\, AZ where he is the Artistic Director of the Flagstaff Arts Council and co-directs curatorial project New Age Drinks. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Cooper Union in New York in 2009. Iurato currently has an exhibition “100 Dibujos de 100 Cosas” at the Museum of Northern Arizona and has also shown his work at venues including Satellite Contemporary (Las Vegas)\, Studio DTFU (Dallas)\, Ferro-Strouse Gallery (Miami) and Recession Art (Brooklyn).  \nFor more information or to make an appointment to view the exhibition\, please contact the gallery at (804) 384-6288 or by email fffhexgallery@gmail.com.
