This is our church’s largest annual fundraiser and one of the “can’t miss” events in Mathews County. In 2016\, we have added a new feature to the celebration: a 5k race and 1 mile Volksmarch. Join us for exercise\, entertainment\, and the most authentic German cuisine you can get outside of Deutschland courtesy of our master chef\, Chris Hale. \nThe 2016 event is scheduled for Saturday\, Oct 15th. Race registration and meal tickets are available online – just go to “vttrunners.com/Oktoberfest” to sign up for either or both through noon on 10/15. Tickets sell out each year\, and onsite registration is not available. \nEvery race participant will receive a 22-oz custom commemorative German stein\, and awards will be presented to top male & female finishers\, along with top 2 finishers in 9 different age groups.

SUMMARY:Rosenwald -documentary on Historic African American Schools
DESCRIPTION:Rosenwald film screening and discussion with Antioch School alumni and the National Historic Preservation Trust. \nIn the early 1900’s\, Owner and CEO of Sears & Roebuck\, Co. Julius Rosenwald used his considerable wealth to build more than 5\,000 schools for the benefit of African-Americans in the South. After the schools were desegregated\, most of these “Rosenwald” schools were lost and today only 10% of the original structures are still standing. \nMathews County is lucky to have one of the few remaining schools: the Antioch Rosenwald School\, which houses a museum of local African-American history.  \nThis event is free and open to the public. All donations benefit the Antioch Rosenwald School.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the last concert in the 2nd Annual Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic’s Summer Concert Series\, featuring Bill and Pam Gurley. Event will take place on Saturday Aug. 27th at Brent and Becky’s\, doors open at 1:30 p.m. and the band starts playing at 2:00 p.m. Food and drink will be available for sale.  In coordination with Gloucester Arts on Main and the Bay School of Arts\, artwork from many local artists will be on display and for sale during the concert.  Artwork to include paintings\, photography\, pottery and pine needle baskets. The event is rain or shine and don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs.  All proceeds (not including the sale of the artwork) will go towards the GMCC Dental Clinic.
