Show you care – come out and help! \nFree doughnuts\, coffee and hot chocolate!\nFree pizza courtesy Island Stop for lunch!\nDoor Prizes!! Prize for most bags picked up!! \nWhen: ***Saturday November 11th\, 2017 \nTime: 8am – Meet at Visitors Center to pick up trash bags\, safety vests\, safety briefing\, and free doughnuts! \nNoon – By noon\, please return to visitor center to report how many bags were collected and where. And stay for several great door prizes and free pizza party! \nLocation: Mathews Visitor Center. You can select a road section to clean\, or the Visitor Center will provide locations. \nProcess: Before November 11th\, contact the Mathews Visitor Center\, or call or email\, with your organization’s name\, how many people you anticipate will help\, and the section of road you will clean up. Be sure to list all your volunteer’s names – we want to make sure every organization and volunteer is recognized for their efforts! \nSaturday the 11th: Come enjoy free doughnuts and coffee at the Mathews Visitor Center and pick up your supplies (if you have not already done so). Clean up your road – and leave the orange bags on the road; VDOT will pick up bags. Then return to the Visitors Center for prizes\, and free pizza party! \nRecommendations: It’s best to have at least 4 volunteers working together – two for each side of the road\, one on each side of the ditch. Also it’s a good idea to wear rubber boots\, and bring a pole or crabbing net on a pole – those help pick trash out water/ditches. And please bring your own gloves! You can expect to clean about 1 mile per hour with 4 volunteers\, depending on the road. DESCRIPTION:The Mathews Family YMCA is pleased to once again host the 5k-plus race* and 1-mile fun run this year in conjunction with the annual Mathews Market Days festival. Both races start and end at the YMCA (10746 Buckley Hall Road\, Mathews). Awards will be presented to the fastest Male & Female overall 5k-plus finisher\, and to the top finishers in 9 age groups. All of the 1-mile finishers will receive a ribbon at the end of the course. \nChild watch is available during the race so bring the kiddos. We’ll keep them busy if you run the 5k-plus. When you’re done\, you can join them in the 1-mile fun run! Stick around after both races are complete for the post-race raffle – and you may just win scrumptious homemade treats. OH YEAH\, the Fun Run is free (unless you want to purchase a shirt); the 5k is $30. \nClick here to Sign Up! \n*The Market Days 5k-plus course is 3.5 miles in length. SUMMARY:Bayside Youth Ballet Annual Christmas Performance
DESCRIPTION:Bayside Youth Ballet will present their annual Christmas performance on Sunday\, December 18 at 2:00PM at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School. \nThe ballet company will be performing “The Enchanted Doll Shoppe”\, with Marionettes\, a Ragdoll and a Jack in the Box among the lively\, dancing dolls. This performance marks the second presentation of the Enchanted Doll Shoppe by the company. \nThe premiere performance of “Journey to the Land of the Sweets”\, Act II of the Nutcracker\, will also be presented this season.  The popular Sugar Plum Fairy\, Waltz of the Flowers and other excerpts from this beloved classic will be performed by dancers from Gloucester\, Mathews\, Middlesex\, Norfolk and West Point as well as guest performances by students from Diggs School of Dance. With 33 dancers ranging in age from 7 to 18\, new and exciting choreography\, and lavish costumes\, the program is sure to be a family favorite during this Christmas season. \nTickets for the performance are $12 for adults and $7 for children under 10 and are available at Office Supply in Gloucester\, the Mathews Visitor Center and Diggs School of Dance in Gloucester or email baysideballet@gmail.com.
