SUMMARY:Horn Harbor Duathlon (Run+Swim)
DESCRIPTION:Also known as “Beat The Jellies” we’re doing it again! This is our 4th Horn Harbor Duathlon – the date/time selected is to avoid jellyfish (which arrive in the area late June/ early July) and to coincide with high tide. You do not need to be a club member to participate in this NO COST\, non-competitive event. OK – we do time it (overall & splits) but just for bragging rights. \nMeet at the Johnson’s Home in Mathews Co – run 4.75 miles to Horn Harbor Marina then swim 0.85 miles back to their dock. This is our church’s largest annual fundraiser and one of the “can’t miss” events in Mathews County. In 2016\, we have added a new feature to the celebration: a 5k race and 1 mile Volksmarch. Join us for exercise\, entertainment\, and the most authentic German cuisine you can get outside of Deutschland courtesy of our master chef\, Chris Hale. \nThe 2016 event is scheduled for Saturday\, Oct 15th. Race registration and meal tickets are available online – just go to “vttrunners.com/Oktoberfest” to sign up for either or both through noon on 10/15. Tickets sell out each year\, and onsite registration is not available. \nEvery race participant will receive a 22-oz custom commemorative German stein\, and awards will be presented to top male & female finishers\, along with top 2 finishers in 9 different age groups.

This course is all sidewalk!\nNEW THIS YEAR! Virtual 5K–  Want to support the Y but can’t make it to the race this year?  Complete a 5K on your own any time by September 11 and email your time to: sheila.pillath@peninsulaymca.org.  (We’re on the honor system and will take your word!) We’ll mail your race shirt to you!\n\nRegistration: Is easy! Online registration is available through August 28 at www.peninsulaymca.org/locations/Mathews.
