DESCRIPTION:It’s so easy to join in the fun. Pick a Captain\, add 9 others to make a 10-person team\, and get ready to compete for a trophy – and bragging rights. Each player receives a team shirt included with registration – show up on May 21 & get ready to PLAY BALL. Teams must register by April 20; team rosters will be due on May 1. Registration information is online at mocva.net/kickball.\n\n\n\nWho can play. The Kickball Tournament is open to all skill levels\, age 14 & older. Team Captains will complete a roster of their players\, which will include a signed waiver for each participant (or parent for players ages 14-17). You do not need to be a resident of Mathews County to participate in this tournament. \n\n\nPre-Tournament Meeting. Each team captain or designated representative needs to attend a meeting a few weeks before the event. The event organizer will review schedule and rules with captains/ reps and collect team rosters. Also during this meeting\, Team Captains will select colors & sizes for their team member shirts.

For those looking for a shorter distance\, we will have a Free Fun Run open for everyone (distance just > 1 mile). \n10 mile bicycle ride\nWeaving around the backroads of Gwynn’s Island\, you’ll catch glimpses of the Chesapeake Bay\, Milford Sound\, and the popular campground & RV resort on the island as you complete the course. The route is 10 miles and the cost is $30. \nCombine the run & ride\nFeeling adventurous? Sign up for the combined Run & Ride and make it a duathlon. The 4 mile run and 10 mile ride routes are the same as the individual events described above – you’ll stage your bicycle so that as you complete the run leg\, you can immediately head out onto the bike course. The cost is $50.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our second Raku Firing Fundraiser! We are very excited to welcome Martha Hayes and Johnny Norman into our backyard as we put the FUN in fundraising with FIRE! \nSATURDAY\, APRIL 9 (rain date April 16)\nYOU MUST BUY A TICKET FOR A SPECIFIC TIME SLOT!\n4 spots are available for each time slot.\nExpect to spend about two hours with us.\nBuy raffle tickets for your own private raku party here! \n\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n		\n \nRaku firing tickets are $30 each. Here is how it works! Check in at your appointed time\, and you’ll be directed to a glazing station\, where you get to glaze a bowl made by a member of the Clay by the Bay Ceramics Guild. A Guild member will be there to assist you to apply glazes provided by Summer Haze Pottery. About half an hour after you start\, it will be time to put your bowl in the kiln! The firing process takes place right before your eyes\, in about 45 minutes. There’s not much to see while it fires\, so buy a Mug Madness mug\, grab a cup of coffee or cocoa\, bid on amazing raku pottery\, and browse the Art Speaks Gallery while you wait. Make sure you are back outsid4 to see your bowl come out of the kiln\, red-hot and glowing! You’ll want to snap a picture of that! The bowl will be placed in a metal trash can\, lined with newspaper\, which will be set ablaze from the heat of the bowl. The lid goes on\, and the smoke from the dowsed flames and the loss of oxygen – called reduction – makes the magic happen with the glaze. In about 15 minutes\, we’ll pull your bowl out\, quench it in water to cool it\, and wipe it off for you to take home! More photo opps here :). \nThe first firing of the day will feature some special pots Martha has made for us. These will be auctioned or for sale the day of the event\, along with other pottery pieces. \nThe entire process\, except when you visit our beautiful gallery\, will take place outdoors. We will ask that you wear a mask when working with our guild members under the tents\, and when claiming your pot. Clean paintbrushes will be available when you are glazing your pot. Optional rubber gloves will also be available when you check in. Stations will be cleaned between participants. Please keep safely socially distant from people not in your party. And have fun!

Groups should separate themselves along cleanup routes and avoid gathering. \nLet us know how many family members will be participating in your cleanup. \nDecide on a route of your choosing\, or MCVIC will provide you with a list of high-priority areas in Mathews the morning of the event. \nPick up your supplies between 8am to 9am at Sibley’s General Store. DESCRIPTION:Annual Labor Day Event \n3 mile run + 2.5 mile kayak\, starting & ending in Mathews Courthouse area\, transition point at Williams Wharf. Sound like a good time to you? Then feel free to join us on Labor Day 2021: Monday\, Sep 6th. That’s right: it’s free & open to everyone. \nLocation. This event will start and end at Put-In-Creek park and pavilion in Mathews Courthouse. Just a few years ago\, the town of Mathews built a new dock and kayak ramp there so getting in and out of the water is really easy. The creek is tidal so we schedule it to finish very near high tide to ensure no one gets stuck in the mud. \nHigh Tide on 6 Sep 2021 is 9:02am ET \n2021 Schedule. Participants will drop off kayak at Williams Wharf at 8am (we’ll have a volunteer posted there to keep an eye on the kayaks and assist with the transition) and drive to starting area at Put-In-Creek park. We’ll have brief instructions and start as close to 8:30am as possible. We’ve done this course several times – no one has done it as a relay\, but that is certainly an option if you want to divide it up with another person.

DESCRIPTION:The Mathews Maritime Foundation (MMF) will be having a\nMaritime Heritage Day Festival\nSat.\, July 17\n10 am – 3 pm \nCome join us at this outdoor event which will take place on the lawn beside the Maritime Museum.\nTents will be set up showing various activities and projects we are currently working on. Many  photos of past and present will be displayed.  MMF members can sign up for a Sunday Cruise on our buy boat The Peggy\, or for boat building and boat repair workshops which will take place at our Gwynn’s Island Boat Shop (GIBS). There will be interesting outdoor boat exhibits\, country music by John Atkinson of Gwynn’s Island\, food available by Backwoods BBQ \, and much more. The Museum will be open to browse\, see our new exhibits\, visit our gift shop\, and to be surprised at all you find in this little museum.  We hope our membership and friends in the community will take advantage of this opportunity to come talk to us in person and learn more about the activities planned for this summer. \nDirections:  The Maritime Museum is located at 482 Main Street\, Mathews\, VA.  It is on the right of Rt. 14\, just beyond the old courthouse area leading toward New Point.  Parking that day will be along the road on Main Street.  For those who prefer walking from the Courthouse area in town\, it is just a short walk down the street from the Bay School.  There are other events taking place on Main Street on July 17\, so come on down to add us to your adventure. \nRain date will be the following Saturday\, July 24. \nMathews Maritime Foundation\nwww.mathewsmaritime.com\n804-725-4444
