DESCRIPTION:4m Run\, 10m Ride or Run/Ride Duathlon: Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County is the host site of this annual race. Join runners & riders in this unique tour of one of Virginia’s special locations – then hang around to enjoy the music & food. \n4 mile road run\nStarting and ending at the Gwynn’s Island Civic League\, the route follows quiet backroads around the island\, with a constant view of the water. The race course is 4 miles and the cost is $30. For those looking for a shorter distance\, we will have a Free Fun Run open for everyone (distance just > 1 mile). \n10 mile bicycle ride\nWeaving around the backroads of Gwynn’s Island\, you’ll catch glimpses of the Chesapeake Bay\, Milford Sound\, and the popular campground & RV resort on the island as you complete the course. The route is 10 miles and the cost is $30. \nCombine the run & ride\nFeeling adventurous? Sign up for the combined Run & Ride and make it a duathlon. The 4 mile run and 10 mile ride routes are the same as the individual events described above – you’ll stage your bicycle so that as you complete the run leg\, you can immediately head out onto the bike course. The cost is $50.

DESCRIPTION:Ware Neck\, a narrow body of land bordered on one side by the Ware River and the other by the North River\, is in Gloucester County. Visitors will enjoy this tour showcasing a close-knit community with a historic general store and post office\, whose early success was due to ties with steamships that once traded at nearby Hockley Wharf. Three private homes in this quaint community with unique and varied architecture and spectacular river views are included: Glen Roy\, an Antebellum mansion and one of the most elegant historic properties in Gloucester; The Lighthouse\, an eight-sided\, red roofed home in the style of a Chesapeake Bay lighthouse; and The Leigh House\, a more contemporary open and airy home with sweeping views of the Mobjack. DESCRIPTION:Mathews Marathon & Half Marathon\nOctober 15\, 7am\nmocva.com/marathon \n \nRun along peaceful\, rural backroads in beautiful Mathews County\, Virginia. Enjoy the fast\, flat course that winds through dirt\, gravel and paved roads and past the serenity of one of Virginia’s last great countrysides. Registration will close on October 9 – cost is $50 for Half Marathon\, $75 for Full Marathon.\n \n\n\nThe race course is along open roads (not closed to traffic). “Caution Runner” signs will be prominently displayed along the route and participants are advised to be aware of other runners and motorists.\n\nAll participants in the Full & Half Marathon will receive a finisher medal and custom hooded sweatshirt to commemorate their accomplishment. Awards will be presented to fastest overall finishers and to winners in several categories.\nPost Event Activities will be held at the Put In Creek park pavilion. Race participants and spectators are encouraged to enjoy the Mathews Farmers Market which will be ongoing at the adjoining courthouse area.\nAll activities will wrap up at 1pm – race support will end at that time as well. Any racers who are still on the course after six hours will be offered transportation to the finish area by the event crew.
