DESCRIPTION:Your favorite Ukulele group is coming back to the Sibley’s General Store on July 4th weekend! \nStop by to hear them jam on July 3rd\, 11am – 1pm. \nAbout the Ukesters: \nA small group of stray ukulele players in Richmond found each other in 2015 and began to practice around a dining room table. Word got out\, and soon there were 10 of us with a book of songs ever expanding. Today we are a group of some 22 players\, most of whom have been with us for at least five years. With an occasional accordion\, clarinet\, banjo\, autoharp  and steel drum\, we play a variety of songs—familiar uke songs from the 1930s\, Beetles\, gospel\, popular and bluegrass. We are a dedicated group\, having as much fun as we can. We practice weekly and until Covid\, had a regular schedule performing for retirement communities in and around Richmond. SUMMARY:Jeff Little Trio
DESCRIPTION:With few exceptions\, the piano does not play a prominent part in Appalachian or Americana music\, and is rarely the lead instrument. But Jeff Little is an exception – and a remarkable one. His distinctive two-handed style\, much influenced by the   mountain flat-picked guitar tradition\, is breathtaking in its speed\, precision and clarity. \nLittle’s involvement with fiddle tunes\, old time country\, and traditional blues dates to his growing up in Boone\, North Carolina\, where his family\, owned a music shop. The shop was a regular gathering place for musicians who would just stop by to pick a few tunes. At an early age Jeff would regularly sit in with many of the musicians from the region\, including one of America’s most influential musicians\, Doc Watson. These influences helped shape Jeff’s approach to the piano which is based on these deep musical traditions. \nToday\, Jeff stays busy traveling the country performing concerts with an energy and dedication to his music that is evident at every show. Performances include The Smithsonian Institution\, The National Folk Festival\, American Piano Masters\, Merlefest\, and many festivals\, performing arts centers and music venues throughout the US. Jeff has been featured on National Public Radio and PBS many times and has also taken his music around the world for the US Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs performing in Sri Lanka\, Bahrain\, Oman\, France and Tanzania. In 2014 Jeff was inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame. In addition Jeff is a full time faculty member and Artist in Residence for the Popular Music Program at Catawba College in Salisbury\, NC.

SUMMARY:SAXsational\, The Next Generation
DESCRIPTION:Rob Verdi received his musical training at the Arizona State University School of Music and after a year of teaching junior high band\, Rob relocated to Los Angeles to accept a position with the Entertainment Division of the Walt Disney Company.  His jazz band\, the Side Street Strutters\, entertained guests at Disneyland for 22 years. In 2008\, Rob introduced audiences to Saxophobia\, an exciting show which offered audiences a glimpse at some of the most unusual saxophones every manufactured\, and paid tribute to a handful of legendary artists who contributed to the development of jazz and the popularity of the saxophone. Verdi’s 2013 stage show\, SAXsational\, invited local schools to share the stage with him during formal concert presentations. Rob created SAXsational\, The Next Generation\, which explores a variety of musical styles\, including popular jazz standards of the swing era\, iconic rhythm and blues selections and trendy\, contemporary pop hits.  He currently performs at the Disneyland Resort\, is active in a variety of Los Angeles area musical projects and conducts jazz workshops for the Disney Magic Music Days guest talent program. \nCost: $25 and students are free

DESCRIPTION:Slim Man is a jazz musician that won the Best Jazz Vocalist at the Coachella Music awards in 2016-2017. He also will have new release out this August. The Young at Heart CD is a collection of Rat Pack songs with a Slim twist.  At a young age\, Slim saw Louis Armstrong play the trumpet and sing and then he went on to study trumpet for the next 9 years\, and also taught himself how to play piano and guitar. He’s had songs recorded by the Temptations\, Angela Bofill\, Carl Anderson\, and other artists. Slim’s big discovery was named Ronnie Dunn\, who went on to hook up with Kix Brooks to form the multiple Grammy award-winning country music duo\, Brooks and Dunn. \nCost: $25 and students are free

DESCRIPTION:Let’s go Christmas Caroling! Caroling on a creek! We will meet at Town Point Public Boat Launch off of Hwy 14N in Mathews and paddle our kayaks up Put-In Creek towards the town of Mathews and stop at various docks; the owners will have been pre-notified of our caroling… and sing Christmas carols! We’ll Carol for about an hour – hour and a half. Afterwards we will go to Dianne’s\, a short 4 mile Drive for Chili and snacks. If you can\, please bring a side dish. If it needs to be kept warm\, let me know and we can make arrangements to get it to my house before caroling. BYOB! \nI’ll bring a speaker and pre-loaded carols\, I’ll also print the words to the songs and laminate them but please be prepared to sing! Bring a headlamp so you can see the sheets and sing!\nAlso with solar lighting and all the other stuff they have out there these days it would be fun to decorate\, or at least light up our kayaks. This effort is going to be in conjunction with our local Mathews kayak LIPPS group. I think it will be a lot of fun! \nWe will launch at 4:30 PM so be there in time to get your kayak decorated and ready to launch on time. \nIt will be dark so you must bring a white light per Coast Guard requirements. Also the water will be cold and the air temperature will be cold so dress accordingly in neoprene and dry tops and pants or dry suits. We reserve the right to turn away anyone not dressed for immersion. If the air temperature is below 40 degrees or if it is raining this meet-up will be cancelled. \nYou must wear a PFD.
