DESCRIPTION:Annual 9 mile paddling event for non-motorized craft\, circumnavigating one of Virginia’s few inhabited islands: Gwynn’s Island in Mathews County. \nRegistration cost is $65 per person not per boat. Tandem kayaks\, 8-person racing shells\, paddle boats and even dragon boats (!!) are permitted as long as they are human powered\, non-motorized. \nEach paddler must register separately (must be 14 or older). \n\nRegister here

DESCRIPTION:The Mathews Family YMCA is inviting the community to attend an open house from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Mathews Y is located at 33 Cricket Hill Road\, Hudgins. \nA variety of activities are planned that day including tours of the facility\, an explanation of how to gain 24-hour access\, information about Y programs\, group exercise demonstrations from 10:30-11 a.m.\, face-painting\, snacks\, free use of the gymnasium\, strength training and cardiovascular areas. \nThe joining fee is waived until Sept. 15\, and 50 percent off the fee through the rest of the month.
