The majority of the proceeds benefit the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad and every organization also raises funds for their charity causes. Our motto is “HELP US\, HELP OTHERS!” as all funds raised go back to help Mathews citizens! Everything is provided and you get to be a voter for the People’s Choice Award. The Award is the Judge’s Award and is decided by a panel of professional food judges. There are door prizes and if you purchased 10 tickets are more or are a sponsor\, you have the chance to win an Automated Emergency Defibrillator (AED)! DESCRIPTION:The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our third annual Empty Bowls event.  The hand-made bowls are starting to stack up on the shelves at the Bay School and more are being made as we speak.  Check our Facebook page for opportunities to come make a bowl!  An incredible assortment of hand-made soups\, breads\, and cookies will be served during the event.  Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands\, both novice and expert.   \nThis is a ticketed event.\nTickets may be reserved on the Bay School website or purchased at the Bay School starting Thanksgiving week.  All proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews\, so cash or check only\, please.  Your $15 ticket gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch of soup and bread\, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews.  We will sell as many tickets as we have bowls.  Soup may be purchased for $5 a serving\, and additional donations are of course welcome and appreciated. \nWe hope you join us!

This is our church’s largest annual fundraiser and one of the “can’t miss” events in Mathews County. In 2016\, we have added a new feature to the celebration: a 5k race and 1 mile Volksmarch. Join us for exercise\, entertainment\, and the most authentic German cuisine you can get outside of Deutschland courtesy of our master chef\, Chris Hale. \nThe 2016 event is scheduled for Saturday\, Oct 15th. Race registration and meal tickets are available online – just go to “vttrunners.com/Oktoberfest” to sign up for either or both through noon on 10/15. Tickets sell out each year\, and onsite registration is not available. \nEvery race participant will receive a 22-oz custom commemorative German stein\, and awards will be presented to top male & female finishers\, along with top 2 finishers in 9 different age groups.

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, February 6th from 4:30 to 7 PM at the Piankatank Ruritan Club Building (off 198)\, seven (7) community organization come together in a battle for which organization has the best chili in Mathews County to benefit the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad and each organization! This is a “must attend” event with lots of great food\, door prizes and one (1) new Automated External Defibrillator (AED) given away during the event (for those groups or individuals who purchased 10 tickets or more). ALL YOU CAN EAT after tasting and voting for your favorite chili! Soda\, water\, cornbread and mouthwatering desserts donated by Lynne’s Family Restaurant and Richardson’s!  Beer and wine are available from the Mathews Rotary Club (not included in ticket price). HELP US HELP OTHERS!

DESCRIPTION:The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our second annual Empty Bowls event. The hand-made bowls are starting to stack up on the shelves at the Bay School and more are being fired as we speak. An incredible assortment of hand-made soups\, breads\, and cookies will be served during the event. Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands\, both novice and expert. Local artist Gary Edmondson is contributing to the cause with the donation of one of his paintings\, to be raffled off during the event. \nThis is a ticketed event. Tickets may be reserved on the Bay School website or purchased at the Bay School starting Thanksgiving week. \nAll proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews\, so cash or check only\, please. Your $15 ticket gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch of soup and bread\, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews. We will sell as many tickets as we have bowls. On Thursday\, she will be doing a painting demonstration and the Gallery will offer 15% off her work for that day only. Coyle’s paintings regularly hang in the Art Speaks Gallery\, and she is a featured artist for the Bay Schools annual Holiday Open House Thanksgiving Weekend\, when she will have a variety of folksy and fun holiday ornaments for sale. \nEach Third Thursday Shop Local Day the Bay School features a different gallery artist\, offering interactive experiences and discounts.
