DESCRIPTION:Lauren is currently on tour with Yanni as his featured vocalist\, performing to sold out venues all over the world such as Radio City Music Hall\, Red Rocks Amphitheater and Royal Albert Hall. She can be seen on his PBS Specials/DVDs and CDs and is featured on Yanni’s album\, Inspirato\, singing alongside Plácido Domingo and Renèe Fleming. Lauren is a Grand Prize winner of Ed McMahon’s Star Search and Andrea Bocelli’s World Scholarship\, garnering great acclaim for her affecting portrayals of opera and musical theater roles throughout the world. She had the extreme honor of working with the legendary Dolly Parton for her Netflix movie musical\, as well as being cast in the first table read of the 2025 Broadway bound musical based on Dolly’s life. Lauren and her sparkling soprano voice impart her love and passion for all genres of music.

DESCRIPTION:The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews will host our annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser on Sunday\, December 14 from 11:00 AM-1:30 PM. \nAn incredible assortment of handmade soups\, breads\, and cookies will be served during the event. For a $20 donation\, individuals will receive a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift and a simple lunch of soup\, bread\, and cookies. Community potters and members of the Clay by the Bay Ceramics Guild are creating the bowls from which to choose\, and volunteers are cooking crock pots of soup of many different varieties\, homemade breads\, and too many cookies to count! \nLast year\, The Empty Bowls Fundraiser raised $15\,557.15\, which was more than $4\,000 above the previous year’s effort. Come out and make this year’s event an even bigger success! \nAll proceeds will go directly to Hands Across Mathews. The mission of Hands Across Mathews is to help local families who have suffered some crisis that puts them in need of the basic amenities of food\, clothing\, shelter\, prescription medications\, or fuel. When all other avenues of support have been exhausted\, Hands Across Mathews helps them get back on their feet. The organization combines the efforts of 35 churches in the area to provide non-denominational charitable aid to families\, which have been evaluated and approved by the Mathews County Social Services Department. DESCRIPTION:This friendly\, community competition will let bakers shine in two areas: flavor and artistry. Both professionals and amateurs are invited to participate and will be judged separately by our guest celebrity judge. \nEach baker will present two dozen of their fanciest and tastiest cupcakes. There is no theme to this first competition. One cupcake from each entrant will be used for judging and the rest will be made available for sale to the public. \nThe entry fee to compete is $10\, with these funds going to cash awards for the winners in four categories: best tasting and most artistic in amateur and professional. DESCRIPTION:This year’s Family Art & Clay Festival coincides with Mathews May Faire Celebration.\n\nAlong the Bay School driveway\, you’ll find free art activities for kids and adults and artisan vendors showcasing their craft.\nIn and out of the pottery studio\, participate in or watch our annual Raku Firing or the new Clay Olympics.\n\nRaku Firing – Participants at the raku firing were able to choose a bisque-fired pot or small figurine to glaze and then watch it be fired to 1800°F in less than an hour! Potters who preferred to fire something of their own were able to bring their own pot or small sculptural piece to glaze and fire. Kids or adults who didn’t want to do raku\, had the option to paint a bisque-fired pot with acrylic paint and take it home with no need of a firing. Glaze and fire our pot for $30\, your own pot for $15\, or paint a pot for $10.\n\nClay Olympics – Launched in 2025 as a pottery throwdown\, this year we are adding hand-building challenges to the competition. Participants will compete in a series of challenges that test their skill and artistry\, hoping to advance to the next round and win it all. Enter the Olympics for $10 or cheer on your favorite competitor!

DESCRIPTION:In preparation for Mathews County’s grand July 4th celebration\, the Mathews VA250 Committee invites residents\, neighbors\, and visitors to a special concert on Friday\, May 15\, at Mathews High School. \nCo-sponsored by the Mathews Museum\, Mathews Historical Society\, Sons of the American Revolution\, and Daughters of the American Revolution\, this event commemorates the 250th anniversary of Virginia’s declaration of independence—the first colony to do so. \nThe Courthouse Community Orchestra\, directed by Staff Sergeant Jarrett Kocan of the U.S. Air Force\, will perform an engaging program of music starting at 7:00 p.m. (Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.) \nAdmission is free. Join in for an afternoon of music and history as we celebrate Virginia’s role in America’s fight for independence!
