DESCRIPTION:The Chesapeake Bay branch of the National League of American Pen Women will present an exhibition of writing and art at the Bay School Community Arts Center in Mathews. For this show\, members submitted original works of art and/or poetry or prose in November 2015. These works provided seeds to inspire the members to create a second collection of art and writing. The show will exhibit both the seeds and the works they inspired. The artists and writers will be at the opening to discuss their works. Many of the works will be available for purchase. Established in 1897\, Pen Women is one of the oldest arts organizations of professional female artists\, composers\, and writers in the United States. It has 135 branches. Members of the Chesapeake Bay branch of Pen Women are Regina Gerstman\, Bev McMillan\, Kathleen Noffsinger\, Dara Leblanc Haynes\, Mary Ann Carr\, Dorothy Fagan\, Donna Will\, Dianne Jordan\, Nancy Powell\, Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda\, Gwen Keene\, Harriet Galbraith\, Gail Kenna\, Monti Sikes\, Joyce Stedelbauer\, Martha Anne King\, Libbie Cohen\, Susan Camp and Rebecca Grow. \nShow runs through July 2nd.

SUMMARY:Bayside Youth Ballet presents  "The 12 Days of Christmas"
DESCRIPTION:Bayside Youth Ballet will present this charming ballet with music by the Courthouse Community Orchestra. The event will also include guest dancers from Diggs School of Dance. Also performing will be the Mathews Kids Chorus\, and the Middlesex Elementary School 4th and 5th grade choir. Lynda Smith will emcee the event and perform traditional Christmas favorites. The ballet company will also be performing “The Enchanted Doll Shoppe” a special delight for children of all ages. SUMMARY:Empty Bowls Charity Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our second annual Empty Bowls event. The hand-made bowls are starting to stack up on the shelves at the Bay School and more are being fired as we speak. An incredible assortment of hand-made soups\, breads\, and cookies will be served during the event. Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands\, both novice and expert. Local artist Gary Edmondson is contributing to the cause with the donation of one of his paintings\, to be raffled off during the event. \nThis is a ticketed event. Tickets may be reserved on the Bay School website or purchased at the Bay School starting Thanksgiving week. \nAll proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews\, so cash or check only\, please. Your $15 ticket gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch of soup and bread\, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews. We will sell as many tickets as we have bowls.
