DESCRIPTION:Bay Quilters meets the Second Thursday of Every Month at Westville Christian Church \nBay Quilters Guild meets to learn new quilting skills\, share information\, display completed items or found treasures\, and make quilts for various charitable organizations. During the calendar year\, they hold classes\, lectures\, and a Mystery Quilt Retreat. The Guild sponsors an annual quilt show at the Mathews Public Library during Market Days (first weekend after Labor Day in September). Individual members take part in the May Faire Arts & Crafts Competition (first Saturday in May). Everyone who quilts or who just plain loves looking at quilts is welcome. SUMMARY:Gloucester House and Garden Tour – Historic Garden Week in Virginia
DESCRIPTION:Gloucester County’s rich history dates from just after the settlement at Jamestown in 1607 and its role during the American Revolution was pivotal. The southern tip of the county’s peninsula extends into the York River and is directly across from Yorktown.  This prime military vantage point is the location of one of our properties\, Little England Farm\, built in 1716.  Visitors will enjoy access to additional private homes and grounds\, including Sweetgrass\, a low-country style home which looks across the Severn River to Warner Hall\, George Washington’s great-great-grandfather’s estate.  Also open is Belvinhem Quay\, which overlooks Timberneck Creek and boasts an extensive art collection.  Abingdon Episcopal Church\, the largest colonial church in Virginia and one of only eight built in the form of a Latin cross\, will be tour headquarters.  All properties are in the town of Hayes. \nHeadquarters at Abingdon Episcopal Church\, 4645 George Washington Memorial Hwy\, Hayes (White Marsh).  Lunches\, tours of the church\, live organ music\, tickets\, and local brochure with map are available on tour day. Abingdon’s Parish House will be open for lunchtime seating and the Abingdon organist will be playing in the church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. \n  \nLunches \nNuttall Country Store is offering $12 pre-ordered box lunches available for pickup at tour headquarters.  Pre-order by calling 804-693-3067 or emailing nuttallstore@gmail.com by Friday\, April 19th. SUMMARY:Bayside Youth Ballet Winter Gala
DESCRIPTION:Winter Christmas Performance \nBayside Youth Ballet will present their annual Christmas performance on Sunday\, December 16 at 2:00PM at the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.  The ballet company will be performing “Journey to the Land of the Sweets”\, Act II of the Nutcracker\, for the third season.  The popular Sugar Plum Fairy\, Waltz of the Flowers and other excerpts from this beloved classic will be performed by dancers from Gloucester\, Mathews\, Middlesex\, and Portsmouth as well as guest performances by students from Diggs School of Dance and Etudes Dance Studio in Kilmarnock. .   The company will also be performing “Christmas with the Tran -Siberian Orchestra” as well as other holiday selections. \nThis is year\, BYB is partnering with The Bay School Community Arts Center to provide a visual addition to our Performing Arts Gala.  The Bay School will host an art exhibit in the lobby so come early to view works of some of our local artists. \nWith 43 dancers ranging in age from 7 to 18\, new and exciting choreography\, and lavish costumes\, the program is sure to be a family favorite during this Christmas season. \nTickets for the performance are $12 for adults and $7 for children under 10 and are available at Office Supply in Gloucester\, the Mathews Visitor Center and Diggs School of Dance in Gloucester or email baysideballet@gmail.com.  Tickets will also be available at the door.
