Buckley Moss will be a guest of the Mathews Museum\, Sunday afternoon\, August 14\, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.   She will be signing the 2nd in a four-part series of Mathews-centric prints and trivets created exclusively to benefit the Museum. This 2nd in the series titled “Workhorse of the Bay\,” is the depiction of a deadrise\, the workboat for the Mathews’ watermen and a mainstay on the Chesapeake  Bay.  Prints and trivets\, both the 1st and 2nd in the series\, will be available on the 14th. These renderings are created specifically for the Museum and are part of a planned 4-part series\, with the last two schedule to debut at Mathews May Faire events\, which are annual festivals celebrated in Mathews County the first weekend in May. The Museum is pleased\, proud and grateful for the support of the artist and her organization. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to our second Raku Firing Fundraiser! We are very excited to welcome Martha Hayes and Johnny Norman into our backyard as we put the FUN in fundraising with FIRE! \nSATURDAY\, APRIL 9 (rain date April 16)\nYOU MUST BUY A TICKET FOR A SPECIFIC TIME SLOT!\n4 spots are available for each time slot.\nExpect to spend about two hours with us.\nBuy raffle tickets for your own private raku party here! \n\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n		\n \nRaku firing tickets are $30 each. Here is how it works! Check in at your appointed time\, and you’ll be directed to a glazing station\, where you get to glaze a bowl made by a member of the Clay by the Bay Ceramics Guild. A Guild member will be there to assist you to apply glazes provided by Summer Haze Pottery. About half an hour after you start\, it will be time to put your bowl in the kiln! The firing process takes place right before your eyes\, in about 45 minutes. There’s not much to see while it fires\, so buy a Mug Madness mug\, grab a cup of coffee or cocoa\, bid on amazing raku pottery\, and browse the Art Speaks Gallery while you wait. Make sure you are back outsid4 to see your bowl come out of the kiln\, red-hot and glowing! You’ll want to snap a picture of that! The bowl will be placed in a metal trash can\, lined with newspaper\, which will be set ablaze from the heat of the bowl. The lid goes on\, and the smoke from the dowsed flames and the loss of oxygen – called reduction – makes the magic happen with the glaze. In about 15 minutes\, we’ll pull your bowl out\, quench it in water to cool it\, and wipe it off for you to take home! More photo opps here :). \nThe first firing of the day will feature some special pots Martha has made for us. These will be auctioned or for sale the day of the event\, along with other pottery pieces. \nThe entire process\, except when you visit our beautiful gallery\, will take place outdoors. We will ask that you wear a mask when working with our guild members under the tents\, and when claiming your pot. Clean paintbrushes will be available when you are glazing your pot. Optional rubber gloves will also be available when you check in. Stations will be cleaned between participants. Please keep safely socially distant from people not in your party. And have fun!

The 2021 Mathews Market Days poster features Langley’s painting of a local buyboat\, the “Lavenia H.”\n\nMrs. Janet Deagle will be present on Saturday\, December 4th from 10 AM – 1 PM along with some of their children to honor Langley’s artwork and legacy during the first sale of this year’s poster.\n\nThere will be 175 posters available for sale with a limited number signed.

SUMMARY:Gallery Artist of the Month - Chris Jeanguenat
DESCRIPTION:The October artist of the month in the Art Speaks gallery is artist Chris Jeanguenat. Chris describes herself as an Illustrator. Each of her paintings tells a story and beckons the viewer to imagine themselves as part of that story. She primarily uses chalk mineral paint as her painting medium. Many of Chris’s paintings are framed in beautiful ornate antique frames that she finds and pairs perfectly with her paintings. There is a wide variety of Chris’s work in her exhibit this month; miniature paintings\, larger paintings\, furniture\, prints\, notecards and functional art. Chris shares her home in Suffolk with her husband\, youngest son and two sweet Pit Bulls. Her art work can be seen in literary magazines\, art magazines such as Creative Chalk Painting\, and used for art lessons for children in England. Chris is currently a regular contributor for “Painting World Magazine” as a writer and cover artist. October 1st-31st\, Monday-Saturday 10am to 4pm
