DESCRIPTION:The Bay School and Hands Across Mathews are excited to be hosting our fourth annual Empty Bowls event. The hand-made bowls are starting to stack up on the shelves at the Bay School and more are being made as we speak.  \nAn incredible assortment of hand-made soups\, breads\, and cookies will be served during the event.  Familiar potters and chefs will be joined by some new hands\, both novice and expert.   \nThis is a ticketed event.  Tickets may be reserved on the Bay School website or purchased at the Bay School starting Thanksgiving week.  All proceeds go directly to Hands Across Mathews\, so cash or check only\, please.  Your $15 ticket gives you a hand-crafted bowl to be treasured or given as a gift; a simple lunch of soup and bread\, to nourish you and remind you of all the empty bowls in the world; and the warm fuzzy feeling of having helped fill your neighbors’ empty bowls here in Mathews.  We will sell as many tickets as we have bowls.  Extra soup may be purchased for $5 a serving\, and additional donations are of course welcome and appreciated. We hope you join us!

DESCRIPTION:November Artist of the Month\, Gayle Merrill’s exhibit will run through November 30. Gayle lives in Gloucester\, Virginia\, on the North River. She enjoys painting with the abundance of light in her home studio. Gayle’s oil paintings have an emphasis on light and color. Boats\, landscapes\, water reflections\, flowers and sunlight are her main themes. A strong influence on her work has been Edward Hopper\, whose favorite subject was “to paint sunlight on the side of a house” with some of his main subjects being seascapes and rural landscapes. Also\, the colors and layers of paint that the impressionist\, Claude Monet\, used are important in her work. SUMMARY:Gallery Artist of the Month - Chris Jeanguenat
DESCRIPTION:The October artist of the month in the Art Speaks gallery is artist Chris Jeanguenat. Chris describes herself as an Illustrator. Each of her paintings tells a story and beckons the viewer to imagine themselves as part of that story. She primarily uses chalk mineral paint as her painting medium. Many of Chris’s paintings are framed in beautiful ornate antique frames that she finds and pairs perfectly with her paintings. There is a wide variety of Chris’s work in her exhibit this month; miniature paintings\, larger paintings\, furniture\, prints\, notecards and functional art. Chris shares her home in Suffolk with her husband\, youngest son and two sweet Pit Bulls. Her art work can be seen in literary magazines\, art magazines such as Creative Chalk Painting\, and used for art lessons for children in England. Chris is currently a regular contributor for “Painting World Magazine” as a writer and cover artist. October 1st-31st\, Monday-Saturday 10am to 4pm
